“Comics are a gateway drug to literacy.”-Art Spiegelman
I have been reading and collecting comics since I was a child, I have studied many a hero and villain’s background and multiple universe storylines. Batgirl at Super Hero High is but another form of a classic comic multiverse. Written by Lisa Yee the characters whom we have come to love and hate over decades have been transformed into a middle grade story series for the next generation of book lovers.
This tale surrounds young Barbra Gordon aka Batgirl. She is a tech wizard and overall girl genius who gets selected to join the ranks of Super Hero High Students next to her best friend Supergirl. This is a bit of a coming of age story in my mind, it’s a young girls ascension into the unknown and dangerous world that is crime fighting. This book/audio book is filled to the brim with classic DC characters such as Harley Quinn, Katana, Supergirl, Cyborg… the list goes on and on. Its an adventurous tale about who Barbara is as a person and what she can become as Batgirl. I highly suggest any young person who loves a good superhero to read or listen to this story, it’s fun for all ages and puts a spotlight on a character that has had a tendency to be hidden in the shadows of other hero’s.
Overall as a avid comic/book reader I rate Batgirl at Super Hero High 5 out of 5 stars. If your interested in this book it will be released January 3rd,2017 for purchase. I received this audiobook from Blogging for Books in exchange for my review. This is my honest opinion about the book.
